Parallelization of 3D LCD Dynamics Simulator on Cenju-3

This paper reports the results of the parallelization of the 3D liquid crystal display (LCD) device simula-tor, which was run on the Cenju-3 parallel computer. The purpose of the simulator is to aid LCD designers in improving an d optimizing design parameters such as the structure of the electrodes and the material of liquid crystal. The speedup brought about by parallelization is of great importance because it accelerates the trial-and-error cycle necessary in the design optimization procedure. The simulator was parallelized by using the 2D domain decomposition method. Experiments on the NEC Cenju-3 parallel computer show that it attained speedup with a factor of 53 when 64 processors were used. The parallel LCD dynamics simulator is now intensively used on the Cenju-3 in order to design a new type of LCD device with a wider viewing angle of the display panel.
